Broadening the Diversity of the Nanotechnology Work Force

To make a significant contribution to the diversity of the U.S. nanotechnology workforce, the IFN will work with the PR-LSAMP Bridging to the Doctorate Fellows and the PR-AGEP programs. They will recruit at least 12 of their combined 35 Ph.D. Fellows per year to do dissertation work under one of the IFN researchers. All fellows under these two programs are Hispanic U.S. citizens who receive intense mentoring and research and communication skills training to enable them to finish their dissertations by the end of their 2–3-year fellowship period. This partnership will allow the IFN to graduate up to 36 very well-educated Hispanic nanoscientists during the duration of the RII project, thus making a significant contribution to the diversity of the nanoscience workforce of the nation.
