Mentoring of Young Faculty

Three well-established senior nanoscientists, Dr. Eric Issacs, director of ANL Center for Nanoscale Materials, Dr. Robert Chang, director of the NCLT, and Dr. David Weistz, director of the Harvard MRSEC, have agreed to serve as mentors. They will mentor the nine young faculty members involved in the RII project as well as the 15 faculty to be recruited through the Start-up Fund strategy. In addition Dr. Issacs has committed his ANL-CNM scientist to participate in the mentoring process by hosting young IFN faculty at ANL. They will guide the young scientists in their career paths to achieve competitiveness as researchers in nanoscience by assisting them in selecting research programs and obtaining competitive funds to develop their research. The senior IFN faculty will also actively participate in the mentoring of the IFN young faculty. Dr Alison Chaiken from HP Labs and an IFN Advisory Board Member has agreed to mentor the young female faculty.
