To increase the workforce in nanoscience, the IFN project has hired this year 11 postdoctoral fellows and 17 graduate students. The IFN researchers are supervising 250 graduate and undergraduate students in their IFN-sponsored laboratories. Of these, 118 are undergraduate research students, 95% are Hispanic U.S. citizens, and 53% are female. These undergraduate students are supported by IFN and other grants. A total of 187 are graduate fellows supported by IFN and other grants, who also work at IFN labs; of these, 44% are female and 56% are Hispanic U.S. citizens. The numbers of students involved in the current IFN are commensurate with the numbers that were involved in the previous phase of the IFN. It is safe to project that the IFN will have conferred more than 43 PhDs in nanoscience-related fields by the end of the 5-year award.  In this manner, the IFN will be contributing to a diverse workforce in nanoscience for the Jurisdiction and the Nation.
